How does it work?
Zen Shiatsu practitioners believe that disease is caused by a disturbance in the flow of energy in the body, know as Chi or Ki. Stimulation to specific points on the body ( known as acupoints or tsubo), affects Chi which flows in your body's meridians.
Rebalancing the body's life energy brings about relief from the pain caused by certain symptoms.
Zen shiatsu encourages the brain to release endorphins, the body's pain-relieving hormones.
The importance of meridians
Meridians are 'energy highways' that run through the body.
There are 12 main meridians, each one supporting a specific organ. Antonique, your Zen Shiatsu practitioner diagnoses your body ( facial diagnosis, hara diagnosis and pulse diagnosis) before your treatment starts, she determines whether your flow of energy in your meridians is depleted ( kyo), blocked or overactive ( jitsu) and treats accordingly. Gentle pressure is applied on the tsubo's, energy blockages are filled up, ready to flow again.
